BattlBox Mission 36: Mass Casualty Response Kit

Is it March already? What happened to February? In my defense I was working a lot (gotta fund the Jeep habit, you know…), so the shortest month of the year completely flew by and I realized it’s almost time for the March BattlBox, and I haven’t posted on February’s yet!

Well, the February BattlBox was an interesting one, inspired by the deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas. This kit is intended to be a small but robust medic kit that can be kept close at hand (carried when traveling, or kept in your rig) in order to hopefully save lives in a mass casualty scene. This subject is not a fun one to think about, but it’s one of the reasons we prepare. So, here’s what was in the February BattlBox:

Basic Mission 36

1 – North American Rescue 6” Trauma Dressing

2 – Battltac Tactical Molle Glove Dispenser with Nitrile Gloves (you could also repurpose this pouch as a tissue dispenser in your Jeep, especially if you have seat covers with Molle system)

3 – Tourniquet and Shear Pouch

4 – Battltac Trauma Shears (I’m actually using these in the kitchen as cooking shears because they’re super sharp and sturdy)

5 – Glowco LED Disposable Triage Light, 3-pack (can be easily seen in the dark)

Advanced Mission 36

Basic items, plus -

6 – Halo Chest Seals

7 – Rescue Litter (handles up to 400 pounds, could also be useful to haul an animal out of the back country when hunting)

Pro Mission 36

Basic and Advanced items, plus -

8 – Combat Medic Bag (includes a. Tactical Combat Casualty Cards (TCCC) Kit, b. Blood Type Patch Set, c. Med Tape, d. Triage Bands); this bag could double as a tactical diaper bag for you Mr. Moms out there!

Pro+ Mission 36

Basic, Advanced, and Pro items, plus -

9 – Fox Knives FX-213 (made of N690 steel, which is sharp as all get-out)

I think BattlBox did a good job providing a variety of useful items in this kit. Add in your regular first aid kit and you’ll be able to assist in a mass casualty scene if needed. Although hopefully that never happens… Keep in mind, though, if you put together a kit like this make sure you know how to use everything in it. Put your own safety first – being prepared with a bunch of stuff is meaningless unless you know how to use it properly.

Thanks for reading today, and stay safe.
